Susan N Christo
Dr Susan Christo is a post-doctoral researcher in the Laboratory of Professor Laura Mackay at the Peter Doherty Institute, Australia. After receiving her PhD from the University of South Australia in 2015, Susan joined the Mackay Laboratory to study tissue-resident memory T (TRM) cells; an immune population that plays a protective role in infection and cancer. Susan’s research has focused on understanding how the tissue microenvironment shapes TRM cell development and functionality. Her work on defining TRM cell heterogeneity and the contribution of tissue-specific signals on their functional plasticity has led to publications in high impact journals including Nature Immunology and Science Immunology. She has presented her work at over 20 national and international conferences, and is recipient of multiple travel grants and independent research funding. Susan is also an active member of the scientific community, through her contributions to the Australasian Society for Immunology and University of Melbourne Immunology Seminar Series. Susan collaborates with domestic and international researchers and clinicians, and is also engaged with industry partners where she employs her expertise of microenvironmental imprinting to investigate TRM cells in various cancer settings.
